A Comprehensive Exploration of Health and Anatomy: Sonlight’s Science Level F”

We received Sonlight’s Health, Medicine, and Human Anatomy Level F for our honest paid review.

If you know our homeschool you know that my son wants to be a cardio thoracic surgeon. He inhales human anatomy and health books and has a hefty collection. Imagine his excitement when he opened up the Sonlight’s curriculum box and saw all the goodies. Once the book was open he took off with all the books and started reading them.

As a homeschooling parent, finding a well-rounded curriculum that covers health, medicine, and human anatomy thoroughly can be challenging. Sonlight’s Health, Medicine, and Human Anatomy Level F program has proven to be an invaluable resource in our homeschooling journey. My son was beaming with happiness when he saw the comprehensive curriculum awaiting his exploration.

Sonlight’s Health, Medicine, and Human Anatomy Level F is for grades six through ninth. You can choose from a four or five day lesson plan. For this review we did the the four day a week lesson plan, but I am looking into getting the fifth day activity sheets. For this level you also need to choose between boy or girl because one of the books will be personalized for that gender. Sonlight’s curriculum are faith based, but so far what we have been exploring has not included much faith inclusion. Full disclaimer we are on week four of this curriculum.

One of the standout features of this program is its comprehensive approach. It not only delves into the intricacies of human anatomy but also explores broader health and medical concepts. The curriculum seamlessly integrates various subjects, including science, literature, and hands-on activities, creating a holistic learning experience.

Literature Based

The choice of literature in Sonlight’s Health, Medicine, and Human Anatomy Level F has been particularly engaging. The carefully selected books provide diverse perspectives on health-related topics, making the subject matter relatable and interesting for my child. This literary component not only enhances reading skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of health concepts.

Interactive Lessons

The inclusion of hands-on activities and experiments adds a practical dimension to the program. My child has enjoyed the interactive elements that reinforce theoretical knowledge. Whether it’s creating models of body systems or conducting simple experiments, these activities bring the subject matter to life and make learning memorable.

The flexibility of Sonlight’s Health, Medicine, and Human Anatomy Level F is another asset. The well-organized schedule and detailed lesson plans offer a clear structure, making it easy for me to guide my child through the material. Additionally, the program allows for customization, accommodating various learning styles and allowing us to delve deeper into specific topics of interest.

The program’s integration of health topics beyond anatomy is a significant advantage. It covers essential health and wellness concepts, nutrition, and even touches on medical ethics, providing a well-rounded education in the broader field of health sciences.

From a parent’s perspective, the resources provided by Sonlight’s are extensive and well-organized. The instructor’s guide, reading lists, and supplementary materials offer valuable support, reducing the preparation time needed to implement the curriculum effectively.

How We Used

Sonlight’s Health, Medicine, and Human Anatomy Level F is recommended to be used over a four day lesson plan. My son is pretty independent when it comes down to all things science. We used this in combination to his spine curriculum. The lessons are not time consuming and because this topic is one his biggest passion he pretty much can do the first three lesson assignments in one day. I have him them stretch them out over the four days but he has been known to sneak in extra questions. He is pretty excited to share with me what he has learned and enjoys each of the lessons so far.

In conclusion, Sonlight’s Health, Medicine, and Human Anatomy Level F program has exceeded our expectations. Its holistic approach, engaging literature, hands-on activities, and flexibility make it a standout resource for homeschooling families seeking a thorough exploration of health-related topics. I highly recommend this program to parents looking for a comprehensive and well-designed curriculum in the field of health sciences. In conclusion, we love Oak Meadow as a company and as our homeschool curriculum. We are here for the long haul and my son couldn’t be happier he looks forward to that brown box every year.

Elephango a Curriculum Companion!

We received  Elephango for our honest review. This review may contain affiliate links at no additional charge to you.

Have you ever wanted a companion to help you lesson plan or just a place you could go when you weren’t sure how to present a lesson or concept? Well, Elephango is my new favorite go-to for my planning and resource management for my homeschool. Elephango is an online supplemental learning platform that offers thousands of resources for parents and students.

The Layout

Elephango provides parents and students with their own dashboards. The parent dashboard allows parents to explore the resources, but at the time of setting things up, you will be able to customize the resources that populate on your homepage. You will find resources for K-12, parenting, and adult learning. You can also choose from these categories:

  • Subject Matter
  • Grade
  • Learning or Personality Style
  • Content-Type
  • Lesson or Time Length

There were several features I found beneficial on the platform. I really like that they had an assessment under the Discover Your Style tab. These assessments allowed both my son and I to answer questions that would tell us our learning and personality styles. I discovered some things about my son that I didn’t know, but it gave me insight into his learning styles. This breakdown was really helpful it will help me pick activities that would work for him and better understand his personality. The other great feature was the state standards list. You select your state and they come up on the screen and within each standard, there are hyperlinked resources to help you teach or assign to your student.

So far, I have favored resources for writing, history, science, and math. My son was working on exponents, and I did a search, and fantastic resources came up. One of the resources I selected had interactive games and a Cyberchase video link. That’s another thing about Elephango they have trusted resources and links for children to access. Parents can rest assured that their students can explore in freedom. We saw a few of our favorite resources and platforms link in activities. I almost forgot that every day when you log in there is a lead resource on your dashboard, it is always something really good and you will also see featured, popular, and new lessons. So here is my confession I solely was using Elephango the last few weeks so I could get the hang of it before I introduced it to my son. I have been having so much fun planning and reading resources I almost forgot I needed to share Elephango. You know it’s kind of like my new BFF and you don’t want to share, but you have to.

The resources will sometimes have activities and a supply list handy for you on the right side. Students can read or have it read to them. Then there is the testing of what they learn with resources where students will answer questions to demonstrate what they have learned. Students can also earn badges as they research and learn, I like this form of positive encouragement.

My son is a huge researcher and I know he is going to love Elephango and the jumpstart badges are going to be perfect for him to help get started with Elephango. I have gradually assigned things for him to do, but I want him to still be free to explore on his own.

Who Would Benefit

  • New and Veteran Homeschoolers
  • Teachers
  • Students and Parents
  • Students who show I high interest in research-based learning

There are resources about homeschooling on Elephango which I think all homeschoolers can benefit from looking at and bookmarking.

Overall thoughts, this is my new homeschool companion, when I saw all the writing resources available, I wanted to hug the screen. Then I started to really go through Elephango and realized I struck gold with this platform, and I couldn’t wait to tell my followers. I have told everyone I talked to they have to try this program out. Google Chrome user Elephango has an extension.

For my followers, Elephango was generous enough to provide an exclusive 3-month free trial by using our special discount code: 3monthfreeblog11

So, if you haven’t guessed it yet I love Elephango! I highly recommend you check out this fabulous all-around curriculum companion and independent learner platform. You will not be disappointed.

Progeny Press: Farmer Boy Study Guide Review!

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

We have never read any of the Laura Ingall book series, I know how could we be a homeschool family and never read any of her books? It’s simple for us my son and I didn’t find the books relatable as an African -Latino family. When the crew was given an opportunity to review Progeny Press Farmer Boy Study Guide 4-6 grade, I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to check out the series.

Farmer Boy is the second book in The Little House series, the story follows the adventures of 9-year-old Almanzo Wilder as he works on his family’s farm. As the book moves through the different seasons we learn about the chores of a farmer boy and Almanzo’s many adventures in farm life.

We have previously reviewed two other Progeny Press study guides and have found them to be comprehensive literature guides. We received the pdf and answer key, you will need to purchase the book or you can use the audio. Farmer Boy Study Guide follows the same flow as the previous guides providing the student with:

  • Instructor Notes
  • Book Synopsis
  • Author & Historical Background

Students start the study guide with activity ideas for pre-reading the book. These activities can include reports, giving an informative speech, map work, and much more. The goal is to get your student’s mindest prepared for the book as it whisks them away to the Wilder farm at the turn of the century.

As the student moves through the study guide the lessons are divided into chapters, some lessons covering more than one chapter. Students will work on vocabulary, literary terms, comprehension questions, projects, and writing. You will see Biblical scriptures reference in some of the activities, but it isn’t overwhelming and can be easily skipped over if that is your preference.

I really do like Progeny Press study guides and the Farmer Boy Study Guide was a welcoming introduction to one of the Little House book series. I like how we can easily use the activities that will work well for us and do some activities orally. The study guide can be done over a period of time or it can be used just as your literature lesson for a month. One of the other things I do like about these study guides is that each study guide works on character-building and moral lessons. Farmer Boy Study Guide is for grades 4-6, so your student can work independently.

There are a few more Progeny Press study guides I plan to pick up over the next few years. I really like how they have organized their guides and it’s not a bunch of busy work. The guides are affordable and are in black and white so they don’t eat up your ink. Be sure to check out the other Crew’s reviews of Progeny Press study guides by clicking the banner below.

Progeny Press: Wagon Wheels Study Guide Review!

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

We added the Progeny Press guide to our Language Arts studies for our Black Pioneers study in December, we were excited to receive the Wagon Wheels Study Guide this time to review. Wagon Wheels Study Guide is a digital download that includes the student activity sheets and a separate answer key. The study guide is recommended for grades 1-3rd grade but my 4th grader will be fine doing this.

The book Wagon Wheels is for students in grades 2nd – 4th, you could possibly stretch the book to 5th grade for its historical content. The story takes place during the time after the civil war when freedmen and their children migrate west to Kansas in search of settling in Nicomdemus Town, land provided from the Homestead Act of 1862. The Muldie boys cross the plains and lose their mother along the way. The three boys and their father reach the town and build themselves a dugout and brace for the harsh winter. The Muldie family encounters the Osage Nation and they rescue them from hungry and they are able to survive. The dad must leave to find work and the Muldie boys (11, 8, and 3) are left to fend for themselves and the support of the community to continue their new life. The book is based upon the memoirs of Lulu Sadler Craig.

Wagon Wheels Study Guide provides brief background information on the Homestead Act of 1862 as well as the synopsis of the book the Wagon Wheels. Students are also given before and after they read activities, vocabulary, grammar, and literary terms to work on. The study guide also provides an external link to other activities to stretch the study guide. In the study guide, you will find 4 questions that do have Bible scriptures attached to them but I didn’t feel as if they were indoctrinating.

The reading comprehensions are divided into 2 chapters sections and the questions require in-depth reflection. Students will answer 7-10 questions in each section. For a 1st grader, the writing may be a bit much, so you can do those questions verbally and they would do fine. Some of the activities include crossword puzzles and drawing, and cooking.

I personally read the book Wagon Wheels for this review and went over the study guide sheets and questions myself. We plan to study Black Pioneers in December so I didn’t let my son do the activities or read the story. I looked over everything and this will definitely be part of our study and I will come back and update my review. I would have liked to see more book resources in the back of the guide about black pioneers, cowboys, Osage Nation.

CTCMath Review!

I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

This one of my favorite reviews to write every year with the Crew. My son has been using CTCMath for the last 4 years and couldn’t be happier with this online full online math curriculum for grades K-12 including Calculus. We received a 12 month online subscription that we are going to full take a advantage of this school year.

CTCMath is a complete math curriculum right at your child’s finger tips. There is no extra textbook to purchase or tutor to hire. Students will get the benefit of working at their own pace and knocking out their math requirements. The program is easy to use and the parent dashboard gives you detailed reports on your students progress and areas of weakness to help you plan and adjust your lessons plans. The program is not just for homeschoolers, if traditional students need extra practice in math or more rigor they can use this program.

The CTCMath gives you access to all grade levels, no more being locked in a specific grade, parents can have their students practice lower grade levels or higher grade levels as they may need. The online per-recorded instructional videos prepares your student for the concept they will be working on. If a student needs some 1:1 help you can customize worksheets using the Questions Bank Wizard.

Now that I have given you a little insight into CTCMath let me tell you how we have been using it and what my plans are for the rest of the year. We have math curriculum that is our spine but CTCMath has been included into that spine as well. CTCMath will be used to help introduce new upcoming concepts to my son on the weekends. I know what you are thinking she really has him doing school on weekend, um YES ! CTCMath exercises are quick and take maybe at the most 10-15 mins to complete so at some point over the weekend I ask my son to hop on and do the area I have assigned for him. That brings me to another great capability you can assign areas you want your student work. Why do I do this because it lets me know exactly how much he already knows and where I need to focus my attention on.

What I like about CTCMath is their philosophy about math “We believe in the importance of teaching Math the traditional way, so we are not aligned with common core.” This philosophy alone is what makes this company stand out they are committed to meeting students where they are at and letting them learn math the traditional way.

CTCMath is a one stop math online math curriculum, it also offer placement test, fluency practice and detailed PDF reporting. With weekly revision sets that help identify learning gaps and great customer service CTCMath is all you need to start your journey of math lessons or just to supplement. CTCMath is reasonably priced and they offer monthly and annual rates, there is even a homeschool family discount. Be sure to check out the other Crews reviews on CTCMath by clicking the banner below!
