Teaching Textbook 4.0 Review!

I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

Teaching Textbooks has been a staple in our home since the end of my son’s 1st-grade year. When the crew was given the opportunity to review for Teaching Textbooks I couldn’t be more thrilled for the opportunity. Our family was given a 12-month subscription to Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0.

The crew was fortunate to have access to both 3.0 and the newly launched Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0. My son was able to really compare the two versions of Teaching Textbook and let me tell you he really liked 3.0 but he LOVES Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0. If you arent familiar with this online digital math curriculum students start the lesson with a lecture and then they will complete 5 practice problems. Once the student’s complete practice problems they move on to do the 20 lesson problems. As the children work the problems if the program senses they are stuck they will give them a helpful hint. When a problem is answered incorrectly students are given an explanation of how to solve it.

The 3.0 version was a little dated with the graphics and at times I agree with him it was glitchy. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 delivers the same quality of lessons as its older version, but the company has really given the platform a major facelift. I also the accessibility of Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 We have his apps on his laptop, iPad, and on my iPhone. No matter if we are on the road or he is using his iPad comfortably on the couch he can log into his apps. I find it really helpful that I can pull out my phone and check his progress in the evenings without having to jump on the computer and log in.

Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 is very versatile with added components such as the control center, students can watch lectures or skip them altogether and jump right into the problems. The control center also gives students a scratchpad, my son loves this new feature. The Control center also allows the student to change their animated buddies and wallpaper. Students can earn more buddies/wallpapers as they progress in lessons. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 parent account gives you the same ability as the 3.0 to change settings and check grades.

Lil J notes:

  • Better Graphics
  • Does not glitch
  • Easier to log in
  • He can use it on his iPad
  • Cool Backgrounds
  • Still looks a little like 3.0
  • Likes 4.0 better than 3.0

The fresh new look of Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 is visually appealing to both kids and parents. We use Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 as our daily warm-ups for our homeschool day. You can use it if you like as your math curriculum or as a supplement. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 website has a placement test and I highly recommend you take this before deciding on the level that best works with your student. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 does offer a free trial for the first 15 lessons for you to try, they also have a family account you can purchase if you have more than one child. . ARTistic Pursuits:K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age Review!

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

We are no strangers to ARTistic Pursuits we have used and reviewed Vol 1 and Vol 2. This year when the crew was offered to review ARTistic Pursuits I decided I would love to add to our collections and review K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age.

This year in our home school we have put a heavy concentration on art appreciation. We have studied a wide range of artist and their techniques. We haven’t yet had the opportunity to study modern art in-depth, the K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age would be a nice way to start that introduction. K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age is a non-consumable book (DVD/Blue Ray) or online stream for 2 years access. K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age comes with 18 lessons of artist study that give you and the child a step-by-step guide about the artist and how to complete the artwork. I really like the ability to have my son log in on his own so he can do his lessons. The online stream is a huge plus for older students because they can choose what best interests them. The supply list is simple and we had all the supplies on hand.

K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age includes artist study includes:

  • O’Keefe
  • Cezanne
  • Seurat
  • Kandinsky
  • Van Gogh
  • Picasso
  • Modigliani and a few more artists.

My son decided to do inspired art from Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) Lesson 11 the focus was abstract art. My son loves abstract art because it allows him to be free to create. He really enjoyed the artist’s background information and enjoyed studying the picture. This lesson was great for him on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age is a nice introduction to modern age art, while we did see art pieces that had diverse images it would have to be an added plus to see culturally diverse artists included in K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age as well. I encourage ARTistic Pursuits to also look at these artists as well.

If you are looking for Modern Art study or art curriculum for your budding artist K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age from ARTistic Pursuits would be a great choice. I highly encourage you to also check out the other crew reviews on other levels or explore the other levels on the ARTistic Pursuits website. Homeschool Court Review!

Disclosure: I received this product free through the Homeschool Review Crew

Last year was very eventful, with Covid-19, racial tension, and politics it isn’t a coincidence that my son would become interested in politics and laws and how they work. What really pushed him to want to know more about the laws is when the Supreme Court judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away and we did a unit study on her. The unit study was great because now he wants to know more about the Supreme court and how the judicial system really works. The crew was given the opportunity to review Homeschool Court.

As a group we received :

Homeschool Court Teacher Manual

Homeschool Court Student Worktext

Homeschool Court High School Supplement

Homeschool Court High School Supplement: Teacher Edition

Student and Teacher Case Studies: Forging Moms Signature

Student and Teacher Case Studies: School Prayer

Student and Teacher Case Studies: Dog Bite at the Dog Show

When I first started going over everything I was a bite lost on how I would present this to my 4th grader because it was a lot of valuable information. Homeschool Court provides you with a solid amount of information how the judicial system works. There are 9 chapters in all with the final chapter being the mock trial.

Homeschool Court is recommended for grades 4-12 th grade. We used the Homeschool Court Student Worktext and the Homeschool Court Teacher Manual which is recommended for students 4th-8th grade. We decided to use the Student and Teacher Case Studies: Forging Moms Signature for our study. We are still working our way through the this case study at the time of this review because I honestly want to make sure we had the understanding of the judicial system fully under our belt. My son has really enjoyed learning about the court system and this is doing a great job answering his questions and giving him insight. My son is looking forward to the mock trial his dad has agreed to be the judge.

I really like how the program is laid out because it really lays it all out for you and the student with question and answer exercises and clear explanations. The Homeschool Court does include a chapter in the in the Homeschool Court Student Worktext and Homeschool Court Teacher Manual called Biblical Foundation and Applications that I feel you can easily skip if you don’t want to include a religious study to the curriculum, we did opt to do this.

This is a great curriculum if you are looking to teach judicial law in your homeschool. This would be great preparation for older students who want to pursue a career in law as well. I would recommend making this unit of study because this isn’t a curriculum that you can do over a week.

The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling Review!

Disclaimer: I received this product free through the Homeschool Review Crew.

Spelling is not my kiddos favorite subject as much as he loves to read him and spelling have still yet to become best friends. We currently have a spelling curriculum that we use and I really love, but my son says he wishes it had some more fun interactive spelling activities. The crew was given the opportunity to review several of products from The Crafty Classroom and I chose to review the Superstar Spelling K- 5 curriculum.

Our family no stranger to The Crafty Classroom we have used several of the companies products, one of my favorites is Interactive Math: Kindergarten . We have used almost everything the company has published over the years. The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling K- 5 curriculum brings the same fun graphics and variety. What I like about this curriculum is I can add my OWN WORDS ….you have no idea how grateful I am that this curriculum is editable. Just being able to plug in my son weekly spelling words is a true blessing, because a lot of digital curriculum you have to use their word list.

So here is the breakdown Superstar Spelling you plug in your own words and they are generated into the different lessons there is a 20 word limit. The program is designed to be used over a 5 day school week. The words are organized into 4 blocks of 5 and the lessons are clearly marked by blocks. What I did for my son was I gave him a pretest using the included pretest sheets on Mondays. Any words he got wrong those were the words I plug into the curriculum and printed out those activities for him to complete.

My son really only having to really study the words he didn’t know how to spell. Then there is what is called the Starting Line-Up I love this concept because it was really motivational for him because he could clearly see what he knew, warm up words (words he can learn quickly), workout words (words that will give his brain a workout), and the challenging words (words that were going to be the most difficult to learn) . I really like this concept because my son didn’t feel overwhelmed, but motivated.

The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling comes complete with games, worksheets, centers, assessments, and review. The program appeals to all learning style and makes it easy to just plug in your words and print. The program completes any spelling curriculum or can be used alone with your own personal word list. If your student is a traditional student you can also benefit with from this curriculum because you can but a twist on studying spelling words with your student. With over 30 pages of activities you are bound to find something your learner will love. My sons favorite activity was the Tic-Tac-Toe.

After using The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling I can honestly say my son and spelling have become better acquainted and I will continue to use this the rest of the school year and the upcoming year.

IEW Structure and Style Students Year 1 Level A Review!

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

There is no secret that writing is not one of my sons favorite homeschool task, but I am determine this year to make writing enjoyable. The Crew was given the opportunity to review the Structure and Style series from Institute for Excellence in Writing®. For this review I will be discussing the Structure and Style® for Students Year 1 Level A .

Structure and Style® for Students Year 1 Level A covers 24 weeks of instruction. The series comes with a Student Binder, Teachers Manuel and Instructional Streaming. At first glance I really appreciated the organization of Structure and Style® for Students Year 1 Level A  I like having everything in a binder so it is easily accessible. The Teachers Manual is detail and easy to follow. I was a little confused by how to organized the materials but I was able to figure things out easily. The stream service is really informative as well and I appreciate Mr. Andrew Pudewa funny lessons and great repertoire with children. Mr. Andrew Pudewa instructs the students on their lessons and how they need to be completed once they finish watching the his lessons.

My son was a little reluctant to start the program because of course he doesn’t like to do a lot of writing, but I have been encouraging him to do more and he likes the stream parts of the lessons he says Mr. Andrew is funny. The binder is divided into 8 different tabs which makes it easy for him and I took keep his writing in order. The student binder gives the student a week at a glance so they know exactly what they will be working on for the upcoming week. We happened to have the Fix Grammar book already so I was able to let him us it alongside the program as well as instructed. You do not have to have this, but we had it and so I went ahead and let him follow along. Institute for Excellence in Writing® offers sample pages of Structure and Style® for Students Year 1 Level A  their website for you to look over .

The teachers manual gives the preparation for each weeks lesson which can be easily transferred into your planner. You can also modify the weekly lessons to fit your needs. The Structure and Style® for Students Year 1 Level A  helps build confidence in your students writing and does it at pace that makes it easy for them. Institute for Excellence in Writing® offers sample pages of Structure and Style® for Students Year 1 Level A  ( on their website for you to look over . At the time of this review the cost for the program is $149.00 this includes the stream service. I was very impressed with this program and my son seems to be enjoying it and not putting up a a fight. I did modify the schedule a little for him but eventually we will go back the the way it is laid out to be completed as we move through the program.

Spelling Shed and Math Shed Review!

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

I love creating variety in our homeschool so my son doesn’t get bored. We received 12 months of access to both Math Shed and Spelling Shed. These are both digital online learning platforms that make it easy to add some fun to your math and spelling lessons. Math Shed and Spelling Shed is for 1st- 5th grade (Spelling Shed can stretch to 8th) and if you have advanced kindergartner this program can be beneficial. Students earn points to they can use to retrieve items for their avatar.

Math Shed is a fun fast paced math fluency practice game. Students are able to practice several skills focusing on :

  • Number Bonds
  • Powers of 10
  • Times Tables
  • Division
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Year 4 Multiplications
  • Negative Numbers

Math Shed has designed the program so students can work on the targeted skills in depth by giving the students the option to select concept area and the degree of difficulty (easy, medium, and hard). My son is working on his time tables and I really enjoyed how he could pick from mixed, single, related +decimals, and year 4 multiplication. Having this option has allows him to cover multitude of skills at pace that works for him. The times tables also includes division and the facts 0-12 which I love because kids cover two skills at once.

Spelling Shed gives parents a variety of spelling list they can choose from for their student. Parents can choose from these already generate list that are phonics, dolch, fry, and UIL 3rd – 8th. Parents also have the option to create their own list, I personally used this option for my son. I really like the option of creating my own list because I was able to input my sons current homeschool spelling curriculum and have him use the program 3-4 days a week to practice. The teacher hub also allows you to do pre/post test and you can track your students knowledge. The teacher also lets you track all your students activity and gives you the ability to assign activities. Just like in Math Shed students can choose their activities and level of difficulty and earn points. The games offer the students a variety of ways for them to practice their words.

At the time of this review the cost for Math Shed or Spelling Shed is $24.95 a year for up to 5 students, if you decide to purchase both you can save 15% off. Both programs can be used on the computer or tablet. We have IOS system in homes and so my son played on his Ipad and our Macs. Overall these are great programs if you are looking to add some fun to your homeschool and summer enrichment.

Page a Day Math Review!!

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

I can honestly say it was pure excitement when I saw the Crew was offered the opportunity to review Page A Day Math , I defiantly wanted to be apart of to review for the company. For this review I am reviewing on all the books because we have worked through all of them and we are starting our journey using the cursive books.

Page A Day Mathis a unique program each kit comes with 10-13 books depending on which kit you purchase, its over 6 months of practice. The kits come with flashcards, assessments, progress tracker and handwriting practice. The company also sends out emails with all kinds of great freebies and extra activities. The program only works if you follow the steps and are consistent to see the results. The students do 1 page a day, students are introduced to the new math fact and then they review the previous days facts. With fun team of helpers from the Math Squad it will help your student stay encourage.

I first started working with the products when my son was in first grade. I happen to stumble across an ad for them on my Facebook page and I reached out to the owner her and I had a great conversation and I decided to purchase my son the Addition Starter Kit . My son struggle with learning his math facts prior us starting the Page A Day Math Addition Starter Kit and I was completely shocked that after working one book he was moving through the rest the set quickly and his mental math was excellent. Within months he learned all his addition facts and then we moved on to the Subtraction Starter Kit. I wondered would we get the same results as the Addition Starter Kit? We sure did he did so well with subtraction that he would forget it was only one page a day and would be moving into the next day. By the end of first grade he was working the Page A Day Math Review books with ease and flying through the Page A Day Math Drills.

So here we are starting 3rd grade and he has already completed the Multiplication Starter Kit and Division Starter Kit he is almost finished with the Division review book. Math this year has been a breeze for him. His mental math skills for all the operations are so tight and quick. He found his confidence and love for math when he started moving through the Page A Day Math system. He loves math so much he works from 2 different math curriculum for homeschool. How I wish I had found Page A Day Math PreK Math Starter Kit when he was younger I could have saved us a lot of agony and time.

Page A Day Math is available in both print and digital format, at the time of this review the cost starts at $29.95 digital and $79.95 for print. If you join her email list she will send you a sample. If you would like to see a walk through of the products please feel free to visit Little Learner and Mom IGTV. I could not recommend this product enough.

Math-U-See: Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction Review!

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

When I started my sons first formula math lessons for math, Math-U-See was at the forefront of my curriculum choices. One the of reason was for its mathematical approach that was similar to Montessori math incorporating hands on manipulatives for learning. When I saw that Math-U-See now offers Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction, I knew I had to try it.

The Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction is for those students that are struggling with mastery and fluency. Its also is for those students that need a more visual and tactile way of learning math. If you student is still using dots, tally marks or even counting on their fingers to do basic single digit addition and subtraction this program is also for your student. I had my son review his subtraction so I could triple check he had complete mastery and he does.

Math-U-See has taken great steps to makes sure that parents are equipped with what they need when using the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction . Parents are highly recommended to have their students take the Before AIM Assessment located on the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction website. The Before AIM Assessment is a verbal assessment of 109 + addition and subtraction at a recall time of 3 seconds or less. The Before AIM Assessment gives parents step by step easy to follow instructions on how to administer the test as well as positive reinforcement suggestion to help your student stay confident and frustration free. The Before AIM Assessment can be done at your students pace and the best part the Before AIM Assessment is free before you commit to purchasing to make sure that the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction is a good fit for your student.

After you take the Before AIM Assessment and purchase Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction the system comes with 12 month digital access to lesson videos instructions, solutions and printable resources. The kit also comes with a smaller set of the integer blocks, colored pencils and everything you need to use the system. The included resource guide acts your lesson plan and is broken down into four sessions labeled A-D. What I personally liked about the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction their are not outside distractions to the lesson, with the included posters and flash cards the goal is to concentrate on math facts only and learn them visually and then memorize.

If you are already a Math-U-See family the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction can easily be added used along side the Primer and Alpha Math-U-See curriculum to help to help support fluency and mastery. Mr. D as my son calls him makes a reappearance in the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction lesson videos online and you will also find helpful games and resources for each lesson. Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction is a fun and gentle way for kids to learn their facts. I think the biggest plus is the parent support in the resource guide that helps you support your struggling students. Kids often tend to feel bad when they are struggling with concepts and the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction really works hard at making sure parents keep their students encourage and self esteem in tact.

Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction at the time of this review is listed at $39 plus tax and applicable shipping. The Before AIM Assessment is free to take on the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction web page and it is highly recommend that you do this before ordering. The program can be done at your student pace, generally takes 6 to 8 weeks to complete. This is a low cost system that can help your student work on their mastery skills over the summer or now if they are home because of the unfortunate Covid-19 pandemic.

Home School in the Woods-Make A State Activity Pak Review!

Disclaimer: I received a FREE copy of this product through the HOMESCHOOL REVIEW CREW in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.

History and geography still remain to be my favorite subjects to teach my son. I try to really bring these lesson alive with hands -on materials. We also like to be able to reflect back on things we have previously study and having keepsakes. With products like Make-A-State Activity-Pak (grades 3-8), Home School in the Woods makes it easy to add hands-on state geography to our studies.

The Make-A-State Activity-Pak comes complete with everything you need to make informative lap book for you and your student to enjoy. Students will explore the state they choose in depth. Each lap-book can include, geography, government, industrial facts, agricultural, landmarks, key facts, mottos and native tribe. The Make-A-State Activity-Pak also goes several steps further to let students design postcards from the state as well as try recipes that are state favorites. There are so many more inclusion in this lap book one could really have a great time just trying to figure out what you want to include, so pace yourself.

We decided to start our study with West Virginia we are studying about Katherine Johnson and she was born in West Virgina and I thought it would be a great addition to our studies and help us knock out geography at the same time. You know I am always thinking about all inclusion when I plan so the Make-A-State Activity-Pak fit right in. My son loved making the pepperonr rolls which are featured in the recipe card box for this state.

West Virginia Postcard

Make-A-State Activity-Pak also gives the freedom to add as much information or as little to the lapbook as the student and parent would like. The lap book really just lets the student dig really deep into the states history. Students will also be able to experience the states complete statehood. This is truly a comprehensive lap book and in my honest opinion United States curriculum. Parents can pull out all kinds of supplemental items to add to this and engage their students into some real research.

Make-A-State Activity-Pak is for grades 3-8 but I could really see using this with 1st and 2nd graders as well and let them build the lapbooks as they move along in grades. I am going to let my son continue to add on to his lapbooks as he progresses. This is a really fun way and interactive way to do geography without felling like you are limited to textbook information.

At the time of this review Make-A-State Activity-Pak is $18.95 and is available as a digital download. I feel like the cost is very reasonable if you are looking for a relaxed USA geography lapbook for all 50 states. You can go at your own pace and you can design your lapbooks the way you want them. We will be using the Make-A-State Activity-Pak for our 3rd grade school and I highly recommend you check it out.
