He wanted to dig deeper, not just gloss over the content. I searched for a novel study that could match his curiosity, but everything I found felt rigid, overly academic, or full of busywork. Then I remembered we still had our Literary Adventures for Kids account. From the Constitution to Reconstruction: Our Take on The Nomadic Professor, Us History Part 2

We received Nomadic Professor, US History Part 2 for our honest review!

A year ago, I shared my thoughts on U.S. History, Part 1 from The Nomadic Professor. That course quickly became one of our favorite homeschool supplemental history experiences because it wasn’t just reading from a textbook it was living history. This year, we continued on with U.S. History, Part 2: The Noise of Democracy, and I can honestly say it has been just as rewarding, if not more so.

If you’re starting with early American history, I’d definitely recommend going back to my Part 1 review, but today I want to focus on what makes Part 2 so special for middle and high school homeschoolers.

Dr. William Jackson, the Nomadic Professor himself, actually films his lectures at historic locations. My son and I love this because we’re not just hearing about events, we’re seeing the landscapes and cities where they unfolded. It feels like history is unfolding right in front of you.

We integrated Mr. D Math’s Self-Paced Pre-Algebra course seamlessly alongside our spine curriculum, utilizing it three days a week with occasional supplementary sessions on Saturdays. Aligning the sections of the Pre-Algebra course with our spine curriculum ensured a cohesive learning experience for my son. Not only did Mr. D Math reinforce concepts covered in our spine curriculum, but it also deepened his understanding and introduced strategies that enriched his mathematical skills.

Moreover, the course occasionally previewed upcoming concepts, providing my son with a valuable head start and fostering confidence as he approached new topics in our spine curriculum. This integrated approach not only enhanced my son’s grasp of mathematical concepts but also instilled in him a deeper appreciation for the subject matter. At the time of this review we are on chapter two section 2.3 -Operations with Integers the plan is to continue working Mr. D Math’s Self-Paced Pre-Algebra course until the mid semester review (end of chapter 6) and picking things back up in the fall.

  3. Alignment with Our Curriculum: We were excited to discover that several of our upcoming chapter books from our Oak Meadow spine curriculum are included in the Literary Adventures for Kids book list. This alignment adds a layer of coherence and reinforcement to our literature studies.
  4. Live Book Clubs: Regular live book club meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month from August to November and January to April. Middle School sessions are at 12 PM and Elementary sessions at 1 PM, both in Central Time. These live sessions are a fantastic opportunity for students to discuss their readings and connect with peers.

Poetry Teatime: On the first Wednesday of each month from August to May at 10 AM Central, there’s a special Poetry Teatime focusing on Lyric Poetry, where songs are explored as poetry.
