Home School in the Woods: Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World Review!

Disclaimer: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

I am always looking for a way to make out homeschool more interesting and hands on. The crew was giving the opportunity to review several of the wonderful resources from Home School in the Woods for this review I choose to review Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World a digital pdf.

Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World is a wonderful resource that allows students to explore the worlds wonders right in their home. Students will focus on the worlds wonders from 4 time period Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Natural. What I like about the Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World is that students can use these wonders to cover history and science. Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World is meant to be put together as lapbook, but because I know my track record with lap books I decided to use the Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World as interactive notebook.

I separated the wonders according to their academic topic. So we have one notebook for science and one for history. We currently studying the ocean and geology so I pulled out the Great Barrier Reef and Grand Canyon for my son. I decided to put the Great Barrier Reef in the science notebook and Grand Canyon in the history. Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World added historical information in to the Grand Canyon such as about the Indigenous People. Can I just say I was very happy that Home School in the Woods used the correct term Indigenous People and showed them proper respect in history.

Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World includes activities timeline of the Wonders of the World as well as all the Ancient Wonders. I love the mix of combining all the time periods in the Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World . I decided against putting them all together rather than building our interactive notebook as we studied them so my son can use the extra pages in the notebook to add to the wonders we study. Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World provides all you need to put together a great lapbook, there is plenty of coloring, information, creative writing and templates for the kids explore the 23 projects. Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World is east to put together with the easy instructions provided. Students can put the Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World together on their own or with assistance from their parents.

Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World is a great resource for homeschoolers or non-homeschoolers, it provides a great supplement to history and science education. At the time of this review the cost for Lap-Pak: Wonders of the World is $18.95. Home School in the Woods offers several other fun filled Lap-Paks and resources be sure to check out the Crew reviews of these resources by clicking the banner below.

EdAlive: Words Rock Online Review!!

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

We finished off our language arts curriculum in early May and the crew was offered an opportunity to review EdAlive Words Rock Online and I thought this would be a fun way to prevent the summer slide with this online program.

Words Rock Online is an online vocabulary and language arts digital platform game. Students are given games to play similar to battleship and they can earn rewards. While Words Rock Online is set up like a video game for the students to capture interest the meat of the program works on the following skills:

  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Punctuation and Literacy

My son who is a moderate gamer wasn’t very much interested in the games, I suspect it may have been just his willingness to learn how to play the slug game. He decided to work on the academics parts instead to my surprise.

Words Rock Online is designed for students ages 5-15 and it adapts to the students the students progress. We saw a lot grammar that my son has covered over this school year and previous years. The program isn’t a teaching program in my opinion it really is more so of a review. I think if students haven’t had a lot of exposure to grammar concepts they may find this program a little difficult to maneuver, but for those students who have a had a strong grammar foundations this program is wonderful for reviewing and keeping those skills sharp. Students are giving to chances to get theirs answers correct, before they move on. I wish that there was a explanation for the correct answers. Parents can check out their students progress and achievements in the parent dashboard, which is nice and can help you with your planning. We will continue to use Words Rock Online for our 4th grade year to help review

At the time of this review the cost of EdAlive Words Rock Online is $90/year with a monthly options for each child. EdAlive also has two more online programs be sure to check out those the reviews by clicking the banner below.

One More Story Review!

DISCLAIMER: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

We love a great picture book in our home, but as my son has gotten older and reads more chapter books with less pictures we haven’t read many lately. I was delighted when the crew was given the opportunity to review a one-year subscription to One More Story .

One More Story is an picture book digital platform available on IOS app and website . Students are able to explore to array of picture books that are vividly pleasing . There over 75 books to choose from that are read aloud to your student. When logging in you will immediately notice the books are divided into different bookshelf tabs. Students will see the full display of the book and can have the title read to them by clicking on the books and when the student is ready to read they just click the green button and the book starts.

Students have 2 options when starting the book they have it read to them or they can click “I Can Read” . There also vocabulary button that will show the vocabulary words for that book and students will be able to see and hear the meaning of the word and a preview of the sentence from the story.

One More Story is a great program for early readers or if just want to get in some more read aloud time with your students. The word tracking in the story helps student to learn new vocabulary. I really like how the books have background music playing. Seeing such a great variety of books took use down memory lane.

My son loved using One More Story he at first was hesitant because of course he is a big time 4th grader who doesn’t have time for picture books, but then he spotted one of his favorite picture book Little Melba and Her Big Trombone. This book is what inspired him at 3 years old he wanted to plat the trombone. He was so happy to see the book he has listened and read it to me several times. Then we were doing an art study on Bill Traylor and I forgot to pick up the book to go along with our study and then I saw “It Jas Happened: When Bill Traylor Started to Draw on One More Story . As we were starting to study Asia in geography and in our grammar curriculum we found Grandfathers Journey as well. It has been so nice to be able to have picture books back into rotation in our home. Thanks One More Story for bringing picture books back to our homeschool.

At the time of this review the cost of a one year subscription is $45.99. Be sure to check out the rest of the crew reviews on One More Story by clicking the banner below.

Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool Review!

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

There is no secret that our family loves music if you follow me on all my social media platforms. One of the ways we make homeschooling fun and interactive is by including music. The crew was offered an opportunity to review Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool. Each reviewer was given a 1-year subscription to acess the program online.

Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool is for children in grades K-6 it covers subjects Timelines, History, Science, Math, English Grammar, Latin, Geography, Hymns, and Scriptures. The program has 4 cycles to help the children build a solid foundation. There is a parent dashboard in which you can track each students progress and interactive quizzes.

For this review we used the Math and English Grammar memory work. The English Grammar section really was nice way to review old concept mastered and new grammar concepts. What I did to make this more helpful for my son is I went through his grammar curriculum and paired the weekly concept with a Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool English Grammar song and we used that all week at the beginning of our lessons. There were times when we had more than 2 concepts and we learned the songs for those concepts. There were a few times I would hear him humming the songs while he was working on his lesson independently. I did notice that over the few weeks have been using the Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool for English Grammar his need for me to review or assist him was less.

For Math, we used Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool in the same way as English Grammar but I was able to skip several of the earlier weeks and find the memory work areas that he really needed help with and this mom was in panic mode about teaching. Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool made teaching my son fraction conversion to decimals a BREEZE! This mama was in panic mode 2 weeks ago when I saw fractions to decimals conversions come up in his curriculum. I prepped for the week and braced for the upcoming lesson, sure enough, I put the song on and we started the lesson and instantly he understood the concept and kept moving along. I think the one thing I would like to see included in the memory work math would be integers and exponents.

Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool does have a Christian foundation, but we only used the math and grammar and for those wondering if there were faith-based items in the sections, we used I didn’t encounter them. There are fun links included in each cycle for the kids to explore outside the memory work. Students can earn badges as they work through the memory work and quizzes.

Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool worked well for my son because he is an auditory and visual learner. The songs are short and easy to learn, I do like the videos that follow the songs as they play because it gives a nice visual for the children. I also like the option that all the memory work can be done in each cycle can be done by the week or you can pick the ones that work for you. I plan to continue to use this over the summer as part of our summer homeschool daily do’s to help prevent summer slide.

Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool is tablet and mobile-friendly “there are streaming channel apps on AppleTV, Roku, and FireTV, which are great for allowing the whole family to easily see the programming content.” At the time of this review, the cost for a 1-year subscription for all 4 cycles is $439.99. If the 1 year subscription doesn’t fit your family’s budget there is monthly and yearly subscriptions for each cycle. Be sure to check out the other crew’s reviews on Cross Seven Ventures – Homeschool Musical Memory Tool by clicking the banner below.

Everybody, Always for Kids Review!

I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

Over the last few weeks we have been transitioning our homeschool into our summer routine. What better way to swap out our morning readings with Everybody, Always for Kids by Bob Goff and Lindsey Goff Viducich.

The last 5 months we have been focusing on growth mindset and kindness. Everybody, Always for Kids has been a welcome addition to our journey. The stories in the book focus on kindness, service and empathy. Children are able to easily relate to the different lessons being taught in the stories.

Everybody, Always for Kids is written from the prospective of the Christian faith but I can honestly say that families of non-Christian faith will find the stories not intrusive and really just teaching the children to be kind to others and acts of service. I found the book very culturally inclusive. Diversity is one of the things I look for in books and we were very happy to see children and families of all ethnic backgrounds in the book as well as characters visiting other countries. Everybody, Always for Kids is a hardcover book with bright vibrant, glossy and sturdy pages.

Everybody, Always for Kids also includes a lesson plan which is fabulous. There are 5 lessons included in the lesson plan. Each lesson comes with :

  • Objective
  • Activity
  • Supply list
  • Lesson steps
  • Discussion questions

We did lesson 5 The Oaks Garden for Earth week and revisited the frog life cycle. My son really likes Everybody, Always for Kids he has been reading it the last few weeks on his own and we talk about what he has read. One story that stood out for us was Chapter 7 Building Schools it taught a lesson about gratitude and a little about the country of Afghanistan and the need for building schools for girls. As a mom Chapter 6 My Bucket also rang home for me about filling my own bucket something I dont do enough and I like the idea of having a real bucket and writing things I need to fill it with. This visual bucket is something I plan to do do not just for myself but for all of us.

We did not read the the book in order I let him read the stories that peeked his interest. The stories are short and they keep his interest and he enjoys them. We will continue to read through the rest of the book and look forward to any new of Everybody, Always for Kids by Bob Goff and Lindsey Goff Viducich series.

At the time of this review the cost for Everybody, Always for Kids by Bob Goff and Lindsey Goff Viducich is $10.27 for the hardcover on Amazon. We really like this book and recommend it if you are looking to add some positive literature for your students. Be sure to check out the other Crews reviews on Everybody, Always for Kids by Bob Goff and Lindsey Goff Viducich by clicking the banner below.

Teaching Textbook 4.0 Review!

I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

Teaching Textbooks has been a staple in our home since the end of my son’s 1st-grade year. When the crew was given the opportunity to review for Teaching Textbooks I couldn’t be more thrilled for the opportunity. Our family was given a 12-month subscription to Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0.

The crew was fortunate to have access to both 3.0 and the newly launched Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0. My son was able to really compare the two versions of Teaching Textbook and let me tell you he really liked 3.0 but he LOVES Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0. If you arent familiar with this online digital math curriculum students start the lesson with a lecture and then they will complete 5 practice problems. Once the student’s complete practice problems they move on to do the 20 lesson problems. As the children work the problems if the program senses they are stuck they will give them a helpful hint. When a problem is answered incorrectly students are given an explanation of how to solve it.

The 3.0 version was a little dated with the graphics and at times I agree with him it was glitchy. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 delivers the same quality of lessons as its older version, but the company has really given the platform a major facelift. I also the accessibility of Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 We have his apps on his laptop, iPad, and on my iPhone. No matter if we are on the road or he is using his iPad comfortably on the couch he can log into his apps. I find it really helpful that I can pull out my phone and check his progress in the evenings without having to jump on the computer and log in.

Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 is very versatile with added components such as the control center, students can watch lectures or skip them altogether and jump right into the problems. The control center also gives students a scratchpad, my son loves this new feature. The Control center also allows the student to change their animated buddies and wallpaper. Students can earn more buddies/wallpapers as they progress in lessons. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 parent account gives you the same ability as the 3.0 to change settings and check grades.

Lil J notes:

  • Better Graphics
  • Does not glitch
  • Easier to log in
  • He can use it on his iPad
  • Cool Backgrounds
  • Still looks a little like 3.0
  • Likes 4.0 better than 3.0

The fresh new look of Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 is visually appealing to both kids and parents. We use Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 as our daily warm-ups for our homeschool day. You can use it if you like as your math curriculum or as a supplement. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 website has a placement test and I highly recommend you take this before deciding on the level that best works with your student. Teaching Textbooks Math 4.0 does offer a free trial for the first 15 lessons for you to try, they also have a family account you can purchase if you have more than one child. . ARTistic Pursuits:K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age Review!

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

We are no strangers to ARTistic Pursuits we have used and reviewed Vol 1 and Vol 2. This year when the crew was offered to review ARTistic Pursuits I decided I would love to add to our collections and review K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age.

This year in our home school we have put a heavy concentration on art appreciation. We have studied a wide range of artist and their techniques. We haven’t yet had the opportunity to study modern art in-depth, the K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age would be a nice way to start that introduction. K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age is a non-consumable book (DVD/Blue Ray) or online stream for 2 years access. K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age comes with 18 lessons of artist study that give you and the child a step-by-step guide about the artist and how to complete the artwork. I really like the ability to have my son log in on his own so he can do his lessons. The online stream is a huge plus for older students because they can choose what best interests them. The supply list is simple and we had all the supplies on hand.

K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age includes artist study includes:

  • O’Keefe
  • Cezanne
  • Seurat
  • Kandinsky
  • Van Gogh
  • Picasso
  • Modigliani and a few more artists.

My son decided to do inspired art from Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) Lesson 11 the focus was abstract art. My son loves abstract art because it allows him to be free to create. He really enjoyed the artist’s background information and enjoyed studying the picture. This lesson was great for him on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age is a nice introduction to modern age art, while we did see art pieces that had diverse images it would have to be an added plus to see culturally diverse artists included in K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age as well. I encourage ARTistic Pursuits to also look at these artists as well.

If you are looking for Modern Art study or art curriculum for your budding artist K-3 Vol. 7 Art of the Modern Age from ARTistic Pursuits would be a great choice. I highly encourage you to also check out the other crew reviews on other levels or explore the other levels on the ARTistic Pursuits website. Homeschool Court Review!

Disclosure: I received this product free through the Homeschool Review Crew

Last year was very eventful, with Covid-19, racial tension, and politics it isn’t a coincidence that my son would become interested in politics and laws and how they work. What really pushed him to want to know more about the laws is when the Supreme Court judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away and we did a unit study on her. The unit study was great because now he wants to know more about the Supreme court and how the judicial system really works. The crew was given the opportunity to review Homeschool Court.

As a group we received :

Homeschool Court Teacher Manual

Homeschool Court Student Worktext

Homeschool Court High School Supplement

Homeschool Court High School Supplement: Teacher Edition

Student and Teacher Case Studies: Forging Moms Signature

Student and Teacher Case Studies: School Prayer

Student and Teacher Case Studies: Dog Bite at the Dog Show

When I first started going over everything I was a bite lost on how I would present this to my 4th grader because it was a lot of valuable information. Homeschool Court provides you with a solid amount of information how the judicial system works. There are 9 chapters in all with the final chapter being the mock trial.

Homeschool Court is recommended for grades 4-12 th grade. We used the Homeschool Court Student Worktext and the Homeschool Court Teacher Manual which is recommended for students 4th-8th grade. We decided to use the Student and Teacher Case Studies: Forging Moms Signature for our study. We are still working our way through the this case study at the time of this review because I honestly want to make sure we had the understanding of the judicial system fully under our belt. My son has really enjoyed learning about the court system and this is doing a great job answering his questions and giving him insight. My son is looking forward to the mock trial his dad has agreed to be the judge.

I really like how the program is laid out because it really lays it all out for you and the student with question and answer exercises and clear explanations. The Homeschool Court does include a chapter in the in the Homeschool Court Student Worktext and Homeschool Court Teacher Manual called Biblical Foundation and Applications that I feel you can easily skip if you don’t want to include a religious study to the curriculum, we did opt to do this.

This is a great curriculum if you are looking to teach judicial law in your homeschool. This would be great preparation for older students who want to pursue a career in law as well. I would recommend making this unit of study because this isn’t a curriculum that you can do over a week.

The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling Review!

Disclaimer: I received this product free through the Homeschool Review Crew.

Spelling is not my kiddos favorite subject as much as he loves to read him and spelling have still yet to become best friends. We currently have a spelling curriculum that we use and I really love, but my son says he wishes it had some more fun interactive spelling activities. The crew was given the opportunity to review several of products from The Crafty Classroom and I chose to review the Superstar Spelling K- 5 curriculum.

Our family no stranger to The Crafty Classroom we have used several of the companies products, one of my favorites is Interactive Math: Kindergarten . We have used almost everything the company has published over the years. The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling K- 5 curriculum brings the same fun graphics and variety. What I like about this curriculum is I can add my OWN WORDS ….you have no idea how grateful I am that this curriculum is editable. Just being able to plug in my son weekly spelling words is a true blessing, because a lot of digital curriculum you have to use their word list.

So here is the breakdown Superstar Spelling you plug in your own words and they are generated into the different lessons there is a 20 word limit. The program is designed to be used over a 5 day school week. The words are organized into 4 blocks of 5 and the lessons are clearly marked by blocks. What I did for my son was I gave him a pretest using the included pretest sheets on Mondays. Any words he got wrong those were the words I plug into the curriculum and printed out those activities for him to complete.

My son really only having to really study the words he didn’t know how to spell. Then there is what is called the Starting Line-Up I love this concept because it was really motivational for him because he could clearly see what he knew, warm up words (words he can learn quickly), workout words (words that will give his brain a workout), and the challenging words (words that were going to be the most difficult to learn) . I really like this concept because my son didn’t feel overwhelmed, but motivated.

The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling comes complete with games, worksheets, centers, assessments, and review. The program appeals to all learning style and makes it easy to just plug in your words and print. The program completes any spelling curriculum or can be used alone with your own personal word list. If your student is a traditional student you can also benefit with from this curriculum because you can but a twist on studying spelling words with your student. With over 30 pages of activities you are bound to find something your learner will love. My sons favorite activity was the Tic-Tac-Toe.

After using The Crafty Classroom Superstar Spelling I can honestly say my son and spelling have become better acquainted and I will continue to use this the rest of the school year and the upcoming year.

Be sure to check out the other Crews reviews of The Crafty Classroom wonderful curriculum by clicking the banner below.
